Research and Resource Center
Main Activities of the Research Resource Centre are:
- Build up research capacity of TLM staff
- Assist in developing research proposals, implementation and monitoring
- Build up a library and literature on Leprosy research, dermatology, rehabilitation,etc
- Assist in data management, statistical analyses, presentation of reports and publications
- Help in implementation of research findings and policy change
The current areas of research interest are:
- Operational Research
- Social Science research
- Applied clinical and Laboratory research
- Epidemiological research
- Relapses and Drug Resistance to MDT
Current Projects
Over 40 single centre research projects ongoing and 10 completed on a variety of topics
Multicenter (3 to 4) research on :
- Community Based Action research on reduction of leprosy Stigma(CARRELS)
- Post-Elimination Leprosy situation in Endemic States of India(PELSI)
- Management of Type I reactions using Aathioprine ( AZA)
- Management of Type 2(ENL) reactions using Thalidomide and Azathioprine(TAPERS)
- Acceptability,Durability and Effectiveness of Modern Footwear(FADE)

Recognition:
The Government Department of Science and Technology(DST) have recognized TLM(India) as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO)

Staff:
The current head of the Research Resource Centre is a senior Biostatistician/Epidemiologist,formerly the head of Biostatistics Department at the Christian Medical College,Vellore and was later the Director of the Famous Scheffelin Leprosy Research & Training Centre at Karigiri.
A Medical Specialist, a senior Social Scientist , an experienced Biostatistician and 2 data-entry/secretarial staff ably support him.
Library Facilities;
The Research Resource Centre possesses a library with a whole range of Journal, books, and publications on Research Methodology, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Social Sciences, Disability, Dermatology, in addition to Leprosy.
