TLM - Humble Beginning
In 1874, Mr. Wellesley Cosby Bailey, an Irish School Teacher was moved with compassion when he saw the plight of people with Leprosy living at Ambala, Punjab where he used to work. He decided to help these people and the only resource that he had handy was his willingness to reach out to the people in need.On his trip back home to the UK , he presented the need of the people affected by leprosy to like minded people and with an overwhelming response by many of them 'The Mission to the Lepers' (now The Leprosy Mission) was established. TLM began with a donation of just a few sterling pounds has grown over the years with the support of thousands of compassionate donors to benefit millions of people affected by leprosy over the years. Extending Hope Since 1874, the mission has reached out to thousands of people with Leprosy, contributed substantially to the early diagnosis and treatment, restoring human dignity that had been eaten away by the disease, helped people findiyng meaning for existence in spite of being affected by leprosy. The Leprosy Mission Trust India Today The Leprosy Mission Trust India was registered as a Society in 1972. The services are rendered through hospital based care, Vocational training, community based projects and support to partner agencies. There are various types of activities such as leprosy referral hospitals, community hospitals, reconstructive surgery, ophthalmic care, community awareness, research, District wise technical support to government health system, rehabilitation. Currently TLM India has over 1000 satisfied employees and operations in 10 states of India. |
